Committees
Construction
Do you have the knowledge or skill to build
a house? Do you have the desire to learn? Would you like to add to the
knowledge and skills you already have or develop new ones? This committee
has responsibility for all phases of the project including design,
permitting, obtaining materials, scheduling, obtaining professional help
(when required), and the actual building. On the job site, committee
members will help with supervising and training volunteers.
Family Selection
Would you like to help lower income families find affordable housing?
On the North Shore many lower income families are seeking the decent,
affordable housing that HFH North Shore
provides. This committee performs the difficult task of selecting our next
homeowner. Using non-discriminatory guidelines, committee members make the
selection based on applications and family interviews.
Fund Raising / Public Relations
Are you good at meeting people? Have you
helped your school or organization raise funds? While all the money from
mortgages on our past projects goes to build our next house, the remainder
comes largely from the efforts of this committee. The committee conducts
2-3 major fundraisers each year, keeps our name and our message in the
local media, gets sponsors, and writes grants. This committee provides the
means by which our projects are accomplished.
Site Selection
Do you have any ideas where we might build
our next home? We're always looking ahead for a site for our next
project. Do you have real estate, legal, or building experience to locate
and acquire suitable building sites and rehabilitation projects? The
committee is responsible for all aspects of property acquisition including
title searches, environmental studies, and interactions with local
government agencies.
Volunteer
Have you ever volunteered to help out? Have
you ever thought how you might coordinate volunteers or fellow workers to
get a job done? Help us find more volunteers. The committee maintains a
listing of all of our volunteers. During building projects, the volunteer
committee works closely with the construction committee to ensure the
proper number of volunteers arrive at the work site at the desired time.
On accelerated builds, the committee along with the public relations
committee, may arrange for meals for those working at the site and much,
much more.
